A crucial aspect of our use of technology and the internet is understanding how to behave online. We will continually be revisiting the issues that surround our interactions with technology and our responsibilities. Here is a concise list of rules to begin our discussions.
Netiquette – the set of rules one follows when behaving properly online. Top Ten Rules for Computer Use
Respect others. Always remember, you are talking to real people out there. Before posting anything, ask yourself: Would I say this to the person’s face?
Follow the same polite and ethical standards of behavior online as you do in real life. Do to others, as you would have them do to you.
Respect people’s time and space when posting.
Take advantage of your anonymity.
You will be judged only by the quality of your writing, not your color, gender, hair, eyes, weight, etc. Therefore, do a great job in your writing—spelling and grammar do count.
Share your knowledge. It’s fun and makes the world a better place.
Respect other people’s privacy. Never snoop in or interfere with anyone’s computer files.
Never harm anyone’s work, files, or reputation.
Never steal anyone’s work. Give credit where credit is due. Don’t cut-and-paste from Wikipedia or anywhere without directly quoting the source. (As I did below.)

Here is a voicethread I made with my three boys about our summer. It's an example of some of the many, cool, things that I've been learning about how to use technology to make our time in the classroom even more interesting, challenging, and up-to-date.

Animoto is an interesting tool to make videos that we will explore as well. Here is a simple one about my family that will just give you an idea of what they are like. We will work on including text that will convey a theme or idea that we have studied.
GOOGLE DOCS is a tool we will use for several different types of assignments, including writing assignments. You can see how links can be made to documents on the Ideal Community page to the right. Another feature of Googledocs is forms like the one below that can be used as surveys or online assignments. Here are some questions about Christmas that I'm embedding from google docs which we will be making more use of second and third trimesters.
